Happy 2021!
By Lisa Willis • Vice President, Business Designs Unlimited

Welcome to 2021!

At Business Designs Unlimited, we know that how you reach your customers has drastically changed since this time last year, primarily driven from the Covid 19 lockdowns, unemployment and change in purchasing habits. If you are struggling to reach customers, we have a few tips.

Show empathy

Face it, the way we talk to one another has changed. Many of us have lost jobs, family members, or our personal health. At the very least, our lifestyles have been upended. So, don’t ignore the pandemic in your marketing and public relations. This is an opportunity to bridge a gap with customers and potentials, and to show the human side of your brand.

Be authentic and real. Show how your company is adjusting to the current landscape. Share resources for customers who need help. These may not be within your company… it may be external resources.

If your company is stepping up donations in volunteer time, resources, or money to help during this difficult time in history, please share it!

This Forbes story by Blake Morgan shows many terrific examples of how companies are showing empathy during this difficult time.

Up your social game

The way companies communicate with their clients and lure potential clients has changed. Strong, strategic social media is a must. Sure, social media isn’t new. It’s been around for over a decade. But the way businesses use it has evolved. Gone are the days of posting to one social media outlet randomly. Today’s smart social media campaigns are customized for each outlet. Social media campaigns follow a rule of three.

Update your website

Is your website mobile responsive? If not, you are reducing your viewing experience by over half. According to Statista, over 50.81% of website visits are visited on a mobile phone (not including tablets). A mobile optimized site makes it easy for a view to navigate without excessive scrolling.

Secure your site

Having an SSL Certificate is not just for e-commerce sites anymore. As of 2018, Google began alerting customers about entering sites without a HTTPS address. Today, not having the certificate will impact your SEO when using the Google browser. There are many companies willing to sell you the certificate and it is easy to install through WordPress. I recommend checking with your hosting service to see if they can provide the certificate first.

How is your Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Jumping through the Google Ranking Factor hoops is becoming increasingly difficult. But a few things remain essential – page load speed, great keywords, new content, backlinks, and strong site structure. I could write an entire blog series about SEO, but better yet, take a look at this series of blogs by Yoast, a leader in SEO.

Use Video

Are you finding that people visit your page but leave quickly? There’s a fix for that: Video. Incorporate video clips to increase the time spent on your site by an average of 2/6 percent longer. Clips can be messages from executives, how-to tips, customer testimonials, or vlogs. They don’t have to be super fancy, but video will be a game changer for your website and social media program.
